Winter Update – Availability Update & HRE’s 50th Anniversary
Winter is cruising right by. While this winter hasn’t brought much snow to the valley floors, it has brought a decent amount to the high country. Throughout the Central Idaho Wilderness we are hovering between 75% and 100% of normal snowpack. We are hopeful to have a big February and March and have a good water year.
We wanted to get you a reminder that there is never a better time than the present to plan your next backcountry & wilderness river trip!
What we have to offer: prime-time dates on multiple sections of river, classic speciality trips, prime-time fly fishing on the Middle Fork Salmon, we are bringing back some options we haven’t run for a few years such as cast & blasts and focusing on a few new options like some fishing opportunities for this late summer and early fall. We even have a few prime-time charter date opportunities still available!
HRE will enter its 50th Season running wild rivers in Idaho, and we promise a first-class experience! There is nothing like a week spent on a river in the Central Idaho Backcountry & Wilderness!

Idaho’s most famous mountain, wilderness, and whitewater river. Challenging rapids, crystal clear water, Native American cultural sites, pioneer history, “blue ribbon” dry fly fishing for wild westslope cutthroat trout, and natural hot springs. National Wild and Scenic River inside the vast Frank Church – River of No Return Wilderness.

~ Main Salmon River of No Return ~
The Main Salmon – River of No Return is an Idaho icon inside the Frank Church and Gospel Hump Wilderness areas. The campsites are among the best in the West. Visit long-abandoned homesteads and orchards, hot springs, mining artifacts, and Native American pictographs. The Main has more historic sites than any other Idaho river. With world class camping, hiking, historical stops, hot springs & class III-IV whitewater, there’s a reason it is one of our most popular return rivers!

~ Salmon River Canyons ~
Roller coaster rapids, perfect swimming water, and wonderful canyonlands. The Salmon River drifts through quiet pools and surges into churning class III-IV whitewater. Camping on exotic pure white sand beaches is unforgettable. The largest undammed river in the continental United States. Come mid August through mid September we start focusing these trips on the amazing Smallmouth Bass fishing in the canyon. You can fly fish with streamers and poppers or spin fish with traditional spinners and grubs and there just isn’t anything like the hard take of a Smallmouth Bass!
